Not in the mood to go all out for St. Patrick’s Day?

That’s perfectly fine.

March in Savannah has its own rhythm. The squares begin to wake up. There is just enough green returning to the trees to remind us that Spring is quietly stepping in.

You do not need shamrocks everywhere to mark the season. A pair of moss or emerald pillows will wake up a neutral sofa. Fresh tea towels in a simple stripe or botanical do the trick in the kitchen. Green glass against white china and polished brass feels just right. Even a handful of ferns or white hydrangeas with those deep green stems looks thoughtful this time of year.

It is less about theme and more about tone. A nod to the season. A hint of green. A quiet welcome to spring in Savannah. Small changes. Well chosen ones. That is all it takes.

MARKET MEMO

Why Days on Market Mean Very Little in the Luxury Tier

Every month someone sends me a headline about days on market creeping up.

And every month I have the same conversation. Luxury real estate does not behave like entry-level housing. It never has.

In the upper tier, buyers are not scrambling because a lease is ending or a rate moved a quarter point. They are deliberate. Often out of town. Sometimes out of the country. Many are purchasing a second or third home. They are not rushed. They are discerning. That changes the timeline.

A $450,000 home and a $4 million historic property on a square are not playing the same game. The buyer pool is smaller by design. Fewer buyers means a longer runway. That is not weakness. It is math.

MARKET MEMO

Days on market in the luxury segment reflect careful decision making, not lack of demand.

Exceptional homes still move. When a property is positioned well, priced with intention, and presented properly, it finds its buyer. It may not happen in a weekend, and it does not need to.

In Savannah especially, many luxury purchases are lifestyle driven. Buyers are choosing a street. A view. A piece of history. Those decisions are not made in a hurry. So when you hear that days on market are up, understand the context. In the luxury tier, time often signals discernment, not distress.

And here, the right buyer always arrives.

A-Bit-of-Mischief

On the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, sleep was nearly impossible in our house.

We knew he was coming.

The leprechaun, small and entirely untrustworthy, would slip in sometime after midnight in search of his pot of gold. And he was not subtle about it. We would wake on St. Patrick’s morning to absolute mayhem. Drawers pulled open with their contents spilled across the floor. Bookshelves rummaged through. Closet doors ajar. Flowerpots tipped over. It looked as if a very small, very determined burglar had turned the house upside down.

Scattered among the chaos were chocolate gold coins, tucked into sofa cushions, lined along stair treads, and hidden behind lamps. We would spend the morning gathering our “loot.” It was magic in the best sense. Harmless, imaginative, and just believable enough.

When I became a mother, we carried it on for our son. The late- night staging. The chocolate coins hidden just so. There is something about passing along a tradition that feels larger than the moment itself.

Savannah, of course, knows how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on a grand scale. The parade, the pipes, the history, the generational pride. But inside our own four walls, the holiday has always been about that same sense of anticipation and delight.

A little mischief. A little gold. And the understanding that traditions, like this city, are meant to be kept alive.

OUT AND ABOUT

Every year, Michael makes corned beef tacos the day after St. Patrick’s Day,

and they are honestly better than the parade.

He chops the leftover brisket and crisps it in a hot skillet until the edges

caramelize. Just enough char to give it some backbone. A little mustard, a

little spice. Nothing fussy. Then we pile it into warm tortillas with a sharp

slaw and something creamy to cool it down.

We’ve served them at our St. Patrick’s parties before, and they disappear

quickly. But truthfully, they’re best the next day.
